Banned terrorist organization Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) has continued a series of attacks in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK) and Punjab provinces under its so-called “Operation Khyber”. According to media reports, TTP has carried out a total of 10 attacks in KPK and six districts of Punjab.
According to the information, the maximum number of attacks, three each, were recorded in Khyber and South Waziristan districts. Apart from this, one attack each was carried out in Kurram, North Waziristan and Bannu. There has also been news of an attack by TTP in Southern Punjab. After these attacks, security agencies have been put on alert and security arrangements have been tightened in the affected areas. Pakistani security forces are conducting a search operation to trace the terrorists involved in the attacks.
Experts believe that TTP has intensified its activities in recent months, due to which security challenges have increased in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and border areas. These continuous attacks remain a matter of serious concern for the internal security of Pakistan.
What is Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan?
Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), often referred to as the ‘Pakistani Taliban’, is a banned Deobandi Islamic terrorist organization. Formed in 2007, this organization is mainly active in the tribal areas near the Pakistan-Afghanistan border and its stated objective is to implement Sharia law in Pakistan and topple the government. This organization has carried out several suicide attacks and violent incidents targeting police, army, mosques and schools across Pakistan. Its deadliest attacks include the 2014 Peshawar Army Public School attack, in which more than 140 people were killed.
Why fight between Pakistan and TTP?
After America’s attack on Afghanistan in 2001, Pakistan supported America. This angered TTP as they considered this move against Islam. TTP believes that the Pakistani government does not follow true Islam, that is why it carries out attacks against the government. TTP has deep ties with the Afghan Taliban. Both the groups support each other. After the Afghan Taliban came to power in 2021, Pakistan carried out attacks inside Afghanistan targeting the TTP.
