Ramayana Invisible Warrior: During the Ramayana period, there were many powerful and valiant warriors. When a fierce war broke out in Lanka between the monkey army of Lord Shri Ram and the demon army of Ravana, the great warriors of both sides were overpowering each other. But there was a warrior in Ravana’s army who could turn the tide of the war not by his power but by his ‘illusion’. He would suddenly disappear from the battlefield and would rain arrows from the sky in such a way that there would be an uproar in the monkey army. The name of this mighty warrior was Meghnad, who is also known to the world as Indrajit. Let us know the secret of this invisible power of Meghnad and how Lakshman ji killed him.
How did you get the boon of becoming invisible?
According to the Ramayana story, Meghnad was a great devotee of Lord Shiva. Pleased with his rigorous penance, Lord Shiva bestowed upon him many divine powers and weapons. One of these was Tamasi Maya, due to which he could make himself invisible during the war. Whenever Meghnad entered the battlefield, he would hide in the sky with the help of dense dark clouds and illusory power. After this he used to rain arrows and divine weapons from above. The enemies could not see him, but it was also not easy to avoid his attacks.
Why was he called Indrajit?
There is an interesting story behind Meghnad getting the name Indrajit. It is said that he had captured Indra, the king of the gods, by defeating him in battle. Later, after Brahma ji intervened, he freed Indra. Due to his victory over Indra, he got the title of Indrajit, which means the one who conquers Indra. After this his news spread in all three worlds.
Meghnad’s bravery in Ram-Ravana war
During the Lankan war, Meghnad had caused huge losses to the monkey army. By using his magical powers and divine weapons, he had put even Shri Ram and Lakshman in difficult situations. On one occasion, he even tied Shri Ram and Lakshman using a snake loop. Seeing his fighting skills, an atmosphere of fear was created in the monkey army.
What was the secret of Meghnad’s invincible power?
The biggest secret of Meghnad’s power was the yagya of Nikumbila Devi. It was believed that if he had completed this special yagya, no one could defeat him in war. Ravana’s brother Vibhishana was aware of this secret. When he took refuge in Shri Ram, he told Lakshman that the only way to defeat Meghnad was to stop his yagya before its completion.
How was Meghnad killed?
On the advice of Vibhishana, Lakshman and the monkey army reached Nikumbhila. There he disrupted the Yagya of Meghnad. Due to the yagya being incomplete, his invincible power became weak. After this there was a fierce war between Lakshman and Meghnad. Both the great warriors used their respective divine weapons. At last Lakshman killed Meghnad with his powerful arrow.
