Ram Temple offering theft: Why did Maulana Rashidi ask for account of Rs 1400 crore from VHP? Questions raised on Champat Rai also

July 5, 2026 by Uma Shankar

There is a heated issue of theft of offerings in the Ram temple of Ayodhya. There is a lot of politics going on on this matter. All the opposition parties including Samajwadi Party and Congress are targeting the central and state governments. Meanwhile, the statement of Maulana Sajid Rashidi, President of All India Imam Association (AIAA) has come to light. Questions have been raised on the finances and leadership of Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP).

During an interview, he said that VHP has always been under suspicion since the Ram Mandir movement. Referring to the money raised during the Rath Yatra, he questioned the financial transparency of the organization.

‘VHP did not give account of Rs 1400 crore’

He said that Vishwa Hindu Parishad is a name on which there has always been doubt since the time of the Ram Mandir movement. He said that Rs 1400 crore was collected during that Rath Yatra. But till now VHP has not given its account.

‘Attempt to give clean chit to VHP’

His statement has come amid the SIT investigation and Champat Rai’s resignation into allegations of misuse of donations in Ayodhya Ram temple. Linking the existing allegations from Vishwa Hindu Parishad, Rashidi said that the Trust’s General Secretary Champat Rai is being deliberately kept isolated. Linking the current case with the old allegations, he said that now after Champat Rai’s name surfaced in the theft in Ram temple, such activities are being done to give a ‘clean chit’ to VHP.

Questions raised on Champat Rai

Rashidi alleged that Champat Rai was deliberately keeping himself away from VHP so that big questions do not arise. He said, ‘Champat Rai deliberately wants to keep himself away from Vishwa Hindu Parishad. Because as soon as the name of Vishwa Hindu Parishad comes, many things come to the notice of the people of the country. May that 1400 crore issue and this new issue together become a controversy. Champat Rai is a clever person, so he has deliberately kept himself a little isolated. He also said that now it will be said that Champat Rai is absolutely clean, he did not do anything to save VHP from this matter.

SIT is investigating the case

The Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the alleged misuse of donations in the Ram Temple reached the temple premises on July 3 and conducted further investigation. On July 1, the state government has given additional time of 15 days to the SIT to complete the investigation. This time limit has been extended so that the SIT can expand the scope of its investigation and comprehensively investigate all aspects of the case.

Earlier on June 23, SIT had submitted its preliminary report. On the basis of this, FIR was registered on June 25 and 8 accused were arrested. Only after the FIR and arrest, Ram Mandir Trust General Secretary Champat Rai and former trustee Anil Mishra resigned taking moral responsibility.
