The tenure of the SIT investigating the Ram Temple offering theft case has been extended once again. According to sources, the Uttar Pradesh government gave two more weeks’ time to the SIT. Now SIT will investigate till 30 July 2026. The three-member SIT had asked for additional time from the government. The government has approved extension of tenure to complete the investigation.
The government is considering the recent instructions of the Supreme Court. The further direction of the investigation will be decided according to the orders of the court. The government is mulling over changes and restructuring of the investigation system. There are also preparations to form a separate criminal investigation team along with the administrative SIT. The leadership of the new criminal investigation team is likely to be handed over to a senior IPS officer. Two other senior police officers can also be included in the proposed team.
If the scope of investigation increases, further work will be divided.
The team comprising IPS officers will investigate the criminal aspects. The existing SIT will continue to investigate administrative negligence and system flaws. The SIT report will decide what further improvements need to be made at the institutional level. The present SIT will complete its investigation and submit the final report to the government. New facts revealed in the investigation and the ongoing criminal investigation will also be included in the report.
Both aspects of criminal investigation and administrative accountability will be investigated separately.
