The recent controversy regarding offerings in the Ram temple of Ayodhya has once again sparked a debate across the country as to where donations and faith worth crores of rupees are managed in the most secure and transparent manner. Every year, devotees donate cash, gold, silver, diamonds, gems and many other valuable things in the big temples of the country. But, how are these donations counted? How are these delivered to the bank? Who audits them? And the most important question is, is there the same system in all the big temples of the country?
The truth is that major temples in India have developed different models for managing offerings over time. At some places there are hi-tech note-counting machines, at some places CCTV surveillance, at some places regular audits by chartered accountants and at some places a complete digital donation system. There are some temples whose arrangements have been fixed by law and regular audit of whose accounts is mandatory. In such a situation, people also want to know that among Kashi Vishwanath, Tirupati Balaji, Siddhivinayak, Shirdi Sai Baba and Mahakal Temple, whose offering management can be considered the strongest and what steps have been taken by the management to keep these offerings safe properly.
