A three-member Special Investigation Team (SIT) formed by the Uttar Pradesh government investigated donation records, CCTV footage, cash counting methods and claims related to jewelery and other valuables. More than 100 people including people associated with the trust, priests, bank officials and cash handling employees were interrogated.

SIT has instructed the people under investigation not to leave Ayodhya until the investigation is completed. A Trust official said, “Those who have already been interrogated by the SIT have been asked not to leave the city till further orders.” According to sources, the daily records of the investigation, including the interrogation of Trust officials and other people associated with the investigation, have been kept in digital form. The SIT investigation was not limited to misappropriation of funds only, but also included investigation into the purchases made by the Trust at different stages and the purchase of construction material for the temple.
