
Sirsa’s Dera Sachcha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim has been granted parole once again. Ram Rahim is serving his sentence in Rohtak’s Sunaria Jail for the rape of sadhvis. This time he has been given parole for 30 days. At around 7 in the morning, Gurmeet Ram Rahim left for Sirsa Ashram amidst tight security. This is his second parole this year. Before this he had taken parole and furlough 15 times and now this is his 16th parole during his sentence. Ram Rahim has so far spent 406 days of his 3,193-day sentence outside the walls of Rohtak’s Sunaria Jail.
Ram Rahim is serving a 20-year sentence in Sunaria jail. In 2017, a special CBI court convicted him of raping two female disciples. After this he was also convicted in two murder cases. In 2019, he was given life imprisonment for the murder of journalist Ram Chander Chhatrapati. In 2021, he was sentenced for conspiring to murder Dera manager Ranjit Singh. However, the Punjab and Haryana High Court acquitted him in the Ranjit Singh murder case in 2024 and in the journalist Ram Chander Chhatrapati murder case in 2026.
Completed 10 weeks payroll time
With 30 days of parole, the Dera chief has completed his 10 weeks of parole for 2026. It is necessary under the Haryana Good Conduct Prisoners (Temporary Release) Act, 2022. Earlier in January, he was given parole for 40 days. This law entitles any prisoner to a total of 10 weeks of parole from January to December, which can be taken in two parts. This law also allows ‘furlough’ (temporary release) of three weeks. This release cannot be taken in multiple parts. However, the Dera chief can take furlough for three weeks this year.
