Preparations for the assembly elections to be held in UP in 2027 have started. Along with this, the alliance between SP and Congress has also started taking shape. It is reported that brainstorming has started on SP-Congress seat sharing for the assembly elections in UP. SP has entrusted this responsibility to retired IAS Alok Ranjan in its party. The survey team is being led by former IAS officer Alok Ranjan.
If sources are to be believed, Alok Ranjan in his report has suggested giving 70 to 75 seats to Congress under the alliance. A formula has also been prepared on the basis on which these seats will be selected. For the formula decided by Samajwadi Party for alliance with Congress, first of all it is conducting a survey to strengthen the grassroots hold of the potential candidates. The strength of the candidates is being tested at two levels. First- through survey of private agency. Secondly, it will be based on the feedback of local leaders.

The SP chief himself is monitoring this entire survey. Akhilesh Yadav Are doing. It is claimed that this time there will be no recommendation of any kind in ticket distribution. Only surveys and feedback will be given priority. The party will field only those candidates who have a strong support base among the public, have a spotless image and are ‘winning candidates’.
If sources are to be believed, apart from these 70 to 75 seats, Akhilesh Yadav can also give separate tickets to 8 to 10 Congress leaders who have every possibility of winning the elections. Apart from the seats decided in the alliance, Akhilesh can also give seats to Congress spokesperson Supriya Srinet, former Congress President Ajay Kumar Lallu, Congress spokesperson Akhilesh Singh, daughter-in-law of former MP PL Punia.

SP President Akhilesh has sought suggestions from his party leaders, MPs and MLAs as to which seats can be given to Congress in their districts. Search for potential candidates on all 403 seats
According to sources, SP is preparing a list of about 60 to 80 seats for Congress, while it is also identifying its potential candidates on all 403 seats. Congress can demand about 120 seats in the initial talks. However, the final compromise may be around 70-80 seats. The top leadership of both the parties is in favor of the alliance, but many leaders at the grassroots level are uneasy due to the possibility of less seats.
Leaders have different opinions regarding alliance
Some senior Congress leaders believe that the pre-poll alliance will give the BJP an opportunity to attack on issues like “appeasement” and law and order, hence they are also expressing their opinion against the alliance. On the other hand, SP leaders argue that the organizational base of Congress is weak in the state, while Congress claims that it played an important role in the success of the alliance in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
There have been ups and downs in the relations between the two parties before. There was tension over rhetoric in 2023, but later after talks between Rahul Gandhi and Akhilesh Yadav, an agreement was reached for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. Congress is emphasizing on winnable seats and wants to get strong seats in terms of social equations. This issue can become the biggest dispute in seat sharing.
