Raakh Review In Hindi: Whenever any major crime takes place in our country, it not only becomes the headline of the newspaper but also takes away the peace of every common Indian’s home. Be it the Nirbhaya murder case or the recent heart-wrenching incident near Pune, where a middle-aged man took an innocent 3-year-old girl and brutalized her just on the pretext of ‘showing a cow’, it has once again sent shivers down the spines of every parent.
After years, when stories like ‘Delhi Crime’ or ‘Sector 36’ are made on such crimes, they are made not for entertainment but to remind us how sick our society has become from within. Now in this series, director Prosit Roy has brought on the screen one such old but heart-wrenching true incident, named ‘ash‘. Prosit Roy, who has made hair-raising series like ‘Paatal Lok’, has a habit that in his world there is no Messiah nor is there a big twist at the end of the tunnel. In ‘Rakh’, he has based the dreadful ‘Ranga-Billa incident’ (Geeta and Sanjay Chopra kidnapping and murder) of 1978, which had taken away the peace of big cities like Delhi and Mumbai of that time. This series, which came on OTT platform Prime Video, is so disturbing that while watching it, you will start feeling a strange uneasiness about the safety of your children.

What is the story of ashes?
This 8 episode series is based on the true incident of the infamous ‘Ranga-Billa incident’ (Geeta and Sanjay Chopra kidnapping and murder) of 1978. The story begins with a laughing family of Delhi. There is a young daughter (Suman Arora) who dreams of singing in All India Radio and her brother (Sahil Arora). One day both the brothers and sisters leave home, but never return. In broad daylight, two psychopathic criminals kidnap these innocent people out of greed for money. After this begins the suffocating journey of finding these children, where with the ticking of the clock, every passing minute creates the fear of a new untoward incident. The story is not just about catching the criminals, but about the fear that had settled in the hearts of big cities like Delhi and Mumbai for a long time.
Why has ‘Rakh’ become special?
The biggest feature of this series is that it does not show any ‘larger than life’ entry of the hero in order to cash in on any real-life tragedy. Prosit Roy’s direction is such that you feel suffocated. It feels as if you are in a place where you are suffocating. The background music of the series is so heavy and dark that it doubles the fear of every scene.

Direction and writing
Prosit Roy is the writer and director of this film. He has handled this sensitive topic with great maturity. There has been no attempt to create sensation by showing the Ranga-Billa scandal on screen, which had shaken even the then government. This series also makes a sharp attack on how in our country’s dilapidated legal system, it takes a long time of four years to get justice even in a seemingly obvious case. This series is such an emotional roller-coaster ride, in which the ‘ups’ of happiness are very less and the ‘downs’ of pain are very high.
How is the acting of Ali Fazal and other actors?
talk about acting Ali Fazal We have seen him wielding a pistol and abusing in ‘Mirzapur’, but this look of him in khaki uniform will surprise you. He plays the role of a police officer who is not only fighting criminals but is also struggling with the internal seniority politics of his department. The helplessness and anger of his character seems very real.

Akash Makhija has done such a scary acting in the role of a criminal that just seeing him gives goosebumps and a feeling of fear. But the characters that remain in your heart are the two children, Divya Sharma and Vivaan Sharma. Any stone-hearted person would cry after seeing the struggle of these innocent people for their lives in the last moments.
Sonali Bendre, who is returning to the screen after a long time, along with Aamir Bashir have lived the pain of those unfortunate parents with such intensity that the difference between acting and reality gets erased. Amidst all these heavy and scary scenes, the character of Rakesh Bedi (Ali Fazal’s father and retired Havildar) works to provide some relief to the audience. Dibyendu Bhattacharya, as always, steals the show in his small role.

see or not
It is said that ‘one’s pain is another’s show’, but you cannot watch ‘Rakh’ just for timepass or entertainment. This series is not just a crime show, but it is a big question mark on the internal security of this country and the future of our children. It is important to look at this canker, buried in the pages of history, in today’s times, so that we can understand that even after what happened 48 years ago, these incidents have not reduced and both our past and future are burning in its ashes.

At the end of the series, a thought has been put forward that ‘I wish those children had not sat in that car that day’, but the bitter truth is that even today that car is standing at every intersection in the form of poor thinking of our society, unbridled filth of the internet and helpless system. To stop this dreadful journey, we have to change our mentality.
