Punjab civic elections 2026: How many seats will Congress-BJP-Akali Dal get ahead of AAP? Know details

May 29, 2026 by Uma Shankar

The people of Punjab have once again made it clear that they want work, not promises in politics. The results of Municipal Corporation, Municipal Council and Nagar Panchayat elections made it clear that people have given a strong seal of trust on the policies of the Aam Aadmi Party government led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann. In this political semi-final held before the 2027 assembly elections, Aam Aadmi Party has given such a performance which has changed the entire equation of Punjab politics.

Aam Aadmi Party National media in-charge of Punjab, Anurag Dhanda said that the results of 48 urban bodies of Punjab have come out. Of these, Aam Aadmi Party has won 34 bodies, while Congress was limited to only 3 and Akali Dal to 6 bodies. At the same time, the public completely rejected BJP. He said that the people of Punjab have shown the real power of democracy to those who are in the habit of forming governments on the basis of agencies.

Big indicator of public mood

Municipal elections are being considered a big indicator of the public mood before the 2027 assembly elections. The results show that the organization of Aam Aadmi Party has strengthened in Punjab, trust in the government has increased and the popularity of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann remains constant. On the other hand, Congress, Akali Dal and BJP have not yet been able to present any issue or leadership that can influence the public.

The people of Punjab have not only elected representatives in this election, but have also given a political message. The message is clear, politics of work will get support, whereas the public will continue to reject old style politics, familyism, opportunism and negative politics. This storm of Aam Aadmi Party in the municipal elections is being considered as a big sign that will decide the direction of Punjab’s politics in the coming times.

People rejected BJP

In the results of 1441 wards declared so far, Aam Aadmi Party has emerged as the biggest force by winning 670 seats. Congress was reduced to 275 seats, Akali Dal was limited to 203 seats, while BJP’s performance was so weak that 1142 of its candidates could not even save their deposits. This is not just a defeat, but a big question among the public on the political acceptance of BJP in Punjab.

The situation of BJP was most worrying. The party which describes itself as the biggest political force at the national level could not even fight for the third or fourth position in the municipal elections of Punjab. The situation was such that the deposits of 1142 BJP candidates were confiscated. The people of Punjab have given a clear message that there is no place in Punjab for those who do politics with the help of political experiments and agencies run from Delhi.

Where do you want how many seats?

By winning 20 out of 21 seats in Dhuri, 19 out of 23 seats in Sunam, 11 out of 13 seats in Sri Anandpur Sahib, 10 out of 11 seats in Ramdas, 9 out of 15 seats in Kartarpur and 12 out of 19 seats in Samana, Aam Aadmi Party has made it clear that its support base is not limited only to the Assembly, but Even at the local level the public stands strongly with him.
