Punjab government organized Mega Parent-Teacher Meet (PTM) in more than 19,000 government schools in the state. During this period, an enthusiastic atmosphere of participatory education was seen in the entire state. It was organized to celebrate Punjab’s achievement of securing the top position in the national education rankings.
Sharing information about the Maha Utsav of Education, Punjab Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains said that this special event was organized to commemorate Punjab getting the first position in NITI Aayog’s School Education Quality Report 2026. In this report, Punjab has left Kerala behind on key parameters of basic education, which has long been considered the gold standard of school education in the country.
Teachers, non-teaching staff honored
Harjot Singh Bains said that in honor of this collective achievement, today teachers and non-teaching staff were honored for their tireless contribution. Apart from this, special honors and certificates were given to outstanding performers including board exam toppers, English Edge program achievers and JEE qualifier students.

Underlining the important role of parents in maintaining this achievement, the Education Minister said that more than 20 lakh parents participated in the Mega PTM and parent workshops. This comprehensive program focused on maintaining continuity of children’s learning during summer vacations, effective management of vacation homework and developing positive daily routines.
Education Minister expressed gratitude to everyone
To ensure successful and quality conduct of this comprehensive programme, training was provided to all teachers and school heads through live YouTube sessions. The Education Minister said that trained support staff and active school management committees played an important role in increasing parent participation, establishing coordination and effective implementation of activities at the ground level.
Harjot Singh Bais said that we have changed government schools from the last option to the first choice. For decades it was believed that quality education was not possible in government schools, but Punjab has proved this notion wrong. This rank is a testament to the education revolution that has taken place in our classrooms.
