Preparations to crack down on smuggling and infiltration, important meeting between India and Bangladesh regarding border security

The 57th DG level meeting between India’s Border Security Force (BSF) and Bangladesh Border Guard (BGB) was held in New Delhi. This meeting was held at BSF Headquarters from 8 to 11 June 2026. BSF chief Praveen Kumar from the Indian side and BGB chief Major General Mohammad Ashrafuzzaman Siddiqui from the Bangladesh side participated in the meeting. In the meeting, both the countries discussed many important issues related to border security. In this, emphasis was laid on stopping smuggling of drugs, weapons, fake notes, gold, illegal infiltration and human trafficking.

Both sides agreed to maintain peace on the border and increase mutual cooperation. It was also decided to increase joint patrolling, strengthen surveillance and share important information immediately. Apart from this, there was also discussion on making people living on the border aware and working together to stop illegal activities. BSF and BGB said that zero tolerance policy against cross-border crime and militant activities will continue. At the end of the meeting, both the countries expressed confidence that this cooperation will make the India-Bangladesh border more secure and peaceful. The next DG level meeting will be held in Dhaka in November 2026.

BSF said that the conference concluded in a very positive atmosphere with the signing of ‘Joint Record of Discussions’ on June 11. Both the delegations expressed confidence that the decisions taken and the consensus reached will further enhance mutual cooperation, and will also contribute significantly to effective border management and strengthening of friendly relations between India and Bangladesh. The next DG-level conference is proposed to be held in Dhaka in November 2026 at any time as per the convenience of both sides.
