After the split in Trinamool Congress in West Bengal, now both ‘Trinamool’ are face to face regarding Martyr’s Day on 21st July. Both the groups are desperate to prove who is the real ‘Trinamool’? Both the groups have already sent a letter to Kolkata Police for permission for the programme. On the other hand, the rebel Trinamool Congress has instructed the councilors to prepare the workers from Saturday’s meeting. The Trinamool leaders of the Ritabrata faction have been given the target to bring as many people as possible from their respective areas.
However, when the party broke into pieces, there was apprehension whether Martyr’s Day would be celebrated on July 21 this year or not, but on Thursday Mamata Banerjee Putting an end to these apprehensions, he ordered to gather at the same place in Dharmatala every year. Ever since Trinamool was the opposition party in the state, there has been a tradition of celebrating Martyrs’ Day in front of Victoria House.
Last Thursday, North Kolkata Trinamool Congress had organized a program at Rammohan Hall on the initiative of Kunal Ghosh. In that meeting, Mamata Banerjee’s speech was played on loudspeaker from Kunal Ghosh’s phone.
Mamta adamant on meeting in front of Victoria House
There Mamata Banerjee said, “I hope that I will get permission on July 21. We will hold a meeting for a day. I will tell you the details on that day. Even if there are five workers, I will be in that meeting. You will have to gather on that day.”
Two days later, Mamata Banerjee’s Trinamool sought permission from the Kolkata Police to hold a meeting in front of Victoria House. The leaders of that group claim that in Thursday’s phone message the party leader wanted to give a message to the entire Trinamool of the state. She wanted to send the message that she was taking to the streets again and would join the fight to change the situation from the stage of 21st July.
While leaving Mamata Banerjee’s house in Kalighat on Saturday afternoon, party MP Mahua Moitra also said that she had sought permission from the police, she also admitted that there was a case of contempt of court. According to Mahua, “If the police does not give permission for the stage, then I will hold a program on the road. Mamata Banerjee will stand on the car and speak.” It is worth noting that the Calcutta High Court has already issued a notice to the Trinamool Congress for holding a meeting in front of Victoria House in violation of the court order in a 2018 case.
Rebel Trinamool leaders made a plan in the meeting
When Mahua Moitra was standing in Kalighat talking about the July 21 meeting, ‘rebel’ Trinamool leaders were holding a meeting in a club in East Kolkata. A meeting of old Trinamool councilors of Kolkata Municipality was called by the Ritabrata Banerjee faction. Many old and new councilors were present in that meeting. Saurabh Basu, son of party president Chandrima Bhattacharya, appointed by Mamata, was also seen in Ritabrata Banerjee’s meeting.
According to sources present in the meeting, Sandipan Saha said, “We are the real Trinamool. We are. We will remain. You have to trust us.” He said, ‘For so long, the families of martyrs were not given respect in the crowd of heroes and heroines. July 21 is a matter of passion for Trinamool Congress. This time we will give true respect to the families of the martyrs. Those who want to stay with us can stay. We will do our traditional on 21st July in front of Victoria House. If the administration does not give permission, then we can think of another place.”
What did the minister say about the Shaheed Sabha?
Regarding Trinamool’s July 21 rally, state Urban Development Minister Agnimitra Pal said, “They can celebrate July 21. But as per government rules. We should not stop others by blocking roads and playing loudspeakers. Our Chief Minister has given permission to Mamata Banerjee to protest on Y channel,” Agnimitra said, quoting Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari.
