The government of Bangladesh has found a way to ban the fundamentalist Jamaat-e-Islami and Sheikh Hasina’s party Awami League. On Thursday (July 9), the Bangladesh government has decided to file a fresh case in the 1971 cases. Tariq Rehman’s government says that this decision has been taken regarding Awami League, but experts say that Jamaat-e-Islami is also the real target of the government. This means that Tariq Rahman’s government wants to deal with the two big parties of Bangladesh together.
Recently, BNP General Secretary and government minister Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir had hinted at banning BNP. Whereas Home Minister Salahuddin Chaudhary has said that we will reopen the files of 1971. We will investigate all the major incidents that have taken place in history. Awami League will be banned on this basis.
Why Jamaat on target?
1. Jamaat-e-Islami is seen as a pro-Pakistan party in Bangladesh. In 1971, Jamaat leaders had opposed the independence of Bangladesh. Jamaat was banned during Sheikh Hasina government.
2. The influence of Jamaat is continuously increasing. This is a threat to BNP. Jamaat leaders are continuously active to make a dent in the votes of BNP. The leaders of the Jamaat are trying to become politically strong by calling themselves nationalists.
3. There has been a tradition of eliminating the opposition in Bangladesh politics. BNP was greatly weakened during the Awami League. Right now Jamaat is the main opposition party.
constant attackers on the government
Jamaat-e-Islami chief Shafiqur Rehman is a constant attacker on the government of Tariq Rehman. Talking to journalists on Thursday, Shafiqur said that our party was defeated due to a conspiracy. Yunus’s government was involved in this conspiracy. We would have been in the government now, but we were made to sit in the opposition.
Shafiqur often addresses Tariq Rehman by the nickname Shahzada in his speeches. Actually, Tariq’s mother Khaleda Zia has been the Prime Minister of Bangladesh and father Ziaur Rahman has been the President of Bangladesh. Tariq has inherited politics.
Awami League also on radar
There was Awami League government in Bangladesh from 2008-24. During this period BNP was isolated. Now Tariq Rehman’s party also wants to implement the same formula. So that Bangladesh can remain in power for as long as possible.
Recently Sheikh Hasina has announced her return to Bangladesh. If Hasina returns to Bangladesh and gets political acceptance there, then the tension of the Tariq government may increase in Dhaka. Because, Sheikh Hasina’s position is still strong in Bangladesh.
In a survey conducted earlier this year in Bangladesh, 24 percent people had shown interest in Sheikh Hasina.
