Indian Army’s K9 dogs have attracted everyone’s attention with their drills in the Pragati 2026 military exercise. In this ongoing exercise with the armies of different countries, trained dogs of the army showed their important role in modern military operations. These K9 dogs demonstrated abilities like finding bombs, tracking enemy movements and helping soldiers in operations.
Belgian Malinois breed assault dog Alan, Rampur Hound tracker dog Victor and Labrador explosive detection dog Deo were special attractions in the exercise. The big thing for the Indian Army was that the indigenous breed Rampur Hound also showed its potential. This breed is known for working in difficult weather and high stamina. The Army is now including Indian breed dogs in operational duties under the Self-reliant India campaign.

K9 dogs showed the ability to work in all types of environments
During the exercise, K9 dogs showed their ability to work in all types of environments, from desert to snowy areas. According to the army, these dogs prove to be very helpful in identifying the enemy, finding explosives and expediting operations. While India’s borders are extremely cold in Kashmir and extremely hot in Gujarat and Rajasthan, dogs that can operate in both types of weather can further increase the strength of the Indian Army.
Robotic dogs were also demonstrated
Robotic dogs have also been showcased in Pragati 2026. This revealed a new picture of working together with modern technology and trained military dogs in the future war. The Indian Army said that K9 warriors are working like silent heroes in the modern war and are increasing the strength of the army manifold. Keeping in view the future needs and threats, the Indian Army is working rapidly on developing all types of drones.
