Pradhans cannot be allowed to continue as administrators… Allahabad High Court termed it a violation of the order of the Division Bench.

June 26, 2026 by Uma Shankar

A petition challenging the appointment of village heads as administrators was heard in the Allahabad High Court. The High Court said that the heads cannot be allowed to continue as administrators. However, the court has not yet imposed any interim stay. These things were said while hearing the case on Friday in the single bench of Justice Siddharth Nandan.

Allahabad High Court Said that appointing the administrator is a violation of the order of the Division Bench, which comes under the category of contempt of court. The High Court directed the state government to file a detailed affidavit as a last chance to bring the OBC Commission report on record.

Next hearing will be on July 13

The court said that if the state government has constituted any commission, then its information and other details should be filed in the court, in which the time limit for holding the elections should be clearly mentioned. The petition was filed on behalf of petitioner Arvind Rathore, the next hearing of the case will be held on July 13 at 2:00 pm.

The tenure of Panchayats in UP has ended on 26 May 2026. The government has issued orders and appointed village heads as administrators. In the petition, a demand has been made to remove the administrators and conduct Tristari Panchayat elections.

Panchayat elections could not be held in May

Actually, Panchayat elections in Uttar Pradesh were proposed for May, but Panchayat elections could not be held in May. The reason for this was that the voter list could not be published till June 12. Along with this, a Backward Commission was also to be formed to decide OBC reservation for Panchayat elections. However, Backward Commission has been constituted and it has been given time of six months. He has to review the social and economic situation of every district.

Till the report of the OBC Commission came, the Yogi government appointed the Panchayat heads as administrators and the heads were given the administrative responsibility. This has been challenged in the Allahabad High Court.
