NHAI has taken strict action in the case of road subsidence on Delhi-Dehradun Economic Corridor. In this case, show cause notice has been issued to the concerned project director, authority engineer and EPC contractor. The team leader of the authority engineer and the project manager of the contractor have been suspended with immediate effect. NHAI said that the repair of the road has been completed and now normal traffic has been restored on this route. According to NHAI, part of the road had caved in due to accumulation of water at one place during heavy rains.
The agency claims that the permanent drainage system could not be commissioned due to opposition from the local people. It is alleged that the culvert from which water was to be drained was being used as a passage for vehicles.
Temporary parallel drain for drainage of water
At present, a temporary parallel drain is being built to drain rain water. The affected area is being continuously monitored so that the traffic continues to flow safely and without interruption. NHAI said that all necessary steps will be taken to make the national highways safe and strong.
