The case of theft of offerings in Ayodhya’s Ram temple continues to be in the headlines. During the investigation, new revelations are being made one after the other. The opposition is continuously targeting the ruling party on this issue. Allegations of theft of temple offerings and financial irregularities are no longer just a legal or administrative matter, but are becoming a major issue in the politics of Uttar Pradesh.
The Ram Temple controversy has heated up the political atmosphere before the 2027 assembly elections. Opposition parties are trying to corner the BJP government, while BJP is trying to push its Hindutva agenda by calling it a political conspiracy.
BJP on target of opposition
After Samajwadi Party President Akhilesh Yadav raised the issue of alleged theft of offerings in Ram temple, Congress and Bahujan Samaj Party have also become attackers. The opposition alleges that the government and the temple management have failed to ensure the security and transparency of the offerings made by devotees in the name of Lord Ram.
This controversy is also sensitive for BJP because issues like Ayodhya, Kashi Vishwanath Corridor, Mahakumbh and religious tourism have been an important part of the party’s political identity and development model. In such a situation, any controversy related to Ram Temple can have a direct impact on the image of BJP.
Questions on security and transparency
Crores of devotees from across the country had contributed approximately Rs 3,500 crore for the construction of Ram Temple. After the inauguration of the temple, the daily offerings are being managed separately. However, recent allegations of alleged embezzlement and theft have raised questions among devotees about the security and transparency of offerings.
The issue increased BJP’s problems
Concern is being expressed regarding this issue within BJP also. Party leaders believe that if the allegations are not resolved satisfactorily in time, its political impact may last for a long time. Meanwhile, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has tried to give a new direction to the political discourse by giving prominence to Hindutva and religious issues in his recent speeches.
‘The culprits will not be spared’
BJP National President Nitin Naveen, who reached Lucknow last Saturday, held 3 meetings of UP BJP. The issue of theft of Ram temple remained prominent in these three meetings. During this he said that the culprits will not be spared at any cost. He said that this matter is going to hurt every Sanatani.
Akhilesh Yadav’s sharp attack
On the other hand, Samajwadi chief Akhilesh Yadav is continuously attacking the BJP government. They allege that the government has failed to protect the offerings of the devotees. He has also said that if Samajwadi Party government is formed then Ayodhya will be developed as “Siyaram Dham”. Akhilesh Yadav first raised this issue by sharing a post on social media. After that this matter gained momentum and came into the headlines within no time.
Congress has also intensified its political campaign regarding this matter. The party’s delegation is preparing to reach Ayodhya and gather information about the entire matter. The central team of Congress is also busy cornering the BJP-Sangh, while BSP chief Mayawati has also called the matter serious and worrying on social media and demanded an impartial investigation.
