After the historic election results in Tamil Nadu elections, the politics here has changed very rapidly. On the day of the election results, Congress suddenly left its old ally DMK and announced its association with actor Vijay’s TVK party. Congress also benefited from this and was successful in becoming a part of the government in the state after 60 years. Whereas MK Stalin’s DMK, which suffered defeat in the elections, is now exploring possibilities in NDA.
Quoting sources, it is reported that efforts have been started to bring Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) back together in NDA. Bharatiya Janata Party led NDA has its eyes fixed on 22 DMK MPs. Apart from this, DMK also has 8 MPs in Rajya Sabha. Possibilities of taking external support on the basis of issues with DMK are also being explored.
DMK-Congress relations end
NDA is looking for two-thirds majority in the Parliament and for this, DMK is emerging as a big hope for it. After Vijay’s departure from Congress to TVK, DMK has completely severed relations with its old ally. The situation is such that DMK has even written a letter to the Speaker to sit separately from Congress in the Lok Sabha.
However, there is a possibility of DMK formally joining NDA because DMK’s stand on the issue of Sanatan has been different. DMK has given statements against Sanatan many times. Stalin’s son and former Deputy Chief Minister of the state Udhayanidhi Stalin has compared Sanatan with dengue and malaria.
DMK against Sanatan Dharma
Udhayanidhi had said during an event on September 2, 2023, “Sanatan Dharma is an idea that divides people in the name of caste and religion, eliminating it is like promoting humanity and equality. Just as we eliminate mosquitoes, dengue, malaria and corona, in the same way it is not enough to oppose Sanatan Dharma. It should be completely eliminated from the society.” This statement was also strongly criticized by BJP.
In such a situation, discussions are going on regarding support on issues like Biju Janata Dal (BJD), Yuvjan Shramik Rythu Congress Party i.e. YSRCP or Bharat Rashtra Samiti (BRS).
Sources also say that it will not be beneficial to bring all the people into the fold by creating division in DMK. NDA will need the support of all 22 MPs. In such a situation, a way will have to be found which can benefit NDA. DMK was once a part of NDA. DMK was a part of NDA during the era of Atal Bihari Vajpayee.
