
Police have taken major action against the active drug smuggling network in Kashmir Valley. Srinagar Police on Monday attached immovable assets worth about ₹4 crore of two alleged drug smuggling accused. This action was taken under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985.
According to police officials, Sangam police station has seized assets worth about ₹3 crore of Ghulam Ahmed Dar in connection with the case registered under the NDPS Act. Which includes a residential house, land and commercial shops. Investigation revealed that these properties were purchased with the proceeds of illegal drug trafficking. Subsequently, the process of confiscating these properties was initiated under relevant provisions of law.
Residential property worth ₹1 crore seized
In a separate action, residential property worth about ₹1 crore of Mohammed Shafi Shaikh was attached in connection with the case registered at Nowhatta police station. During the police investigation, this property was also identified as illegally acquired property through drug smuggling.

Police said that the purpose of this action taken under the provisions of the NDPS Act is to stop the transfer, sale or concealment of assets arising from drug trade.
“Drug-Free Jammu and Kashmir” Campaign
Srinagar Police says that to end the drug smuggling network, it is necessary not only to arrest the criminals but also to take action against the property made from their illegal earnings. Police have said that strict action will continue against people involved in drug smuggling under the “Drug-Free Jammu and Kashmir” campaign.
Police appeal to common people
Police said that efforts are being made to break the economic back of such networks by confiscating the properties acquired from drug trade. The police have also appealed to the general public to cooperate in creating a drug-free society and have assured that the campaign against drug trade will continue in the future also.
