Uneasiness has increased in the Congress party after the recent statement of Shashi Tharoor, MP from Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala. According to sources, the party high command is angry with Tharoor’s comments in which he has justified the steps taken by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the case of Indian sailors. Sources say that the party leadership considers Tharoor’s statement against the official stand of the Congress.
Party spokespersons have been given free rein to publicly criticize his comments and express disagreement. According to sources, the purpose of this move is not only to refute the statement but also to give a clear political message to Shashi Tharoor. In fact, the Congress leadership wants to signal that expressing opinions that differ from the party’s policy in public forums is being taken seriously. Sources also reveal that amid the changing political environment in Kerala and the changing equations of the organization, the party is currently in favor of giving Tharoor another chance.
Congress high command can take action
However, if he continues to make statements that deviate from the party’s official stance, the high command may consider disciplinary action. At present, no official statement has come from the Congress high command on this matter. Similarly, Shashi Tharoor has also not publicly reacted to the reports of resentment within the party.
What did Tharoor say about PM Modi?
In fact, during the G7 Summit in France on June 18, the Prime Minister had raised the issue of the deaths of Indian sailors in his meeting with Trump. Congress MP Shashi Tharoor said that PM Modi had clearly presented India’s side to the US President. Tharoor said it was important to send a message that civilians and sailors working on commercial ships should not be targeted in conflict during times of war. They are not soldiers, and this is the message given by PM Modi.
Pawan Kheda took a jibe at Tharoor
Congress MP Shashi Tharoor is being criticized by members of his own party for praising PM Modi. Taking a dig at Tharoor on Saturday, Congress spokesperson Pawan Kheda said, “My senior colleague Shashi Tharoor can go to any extent to praise PM Modi. He may even start hearing things which Modi never said.”
