
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Indonesia, New Zealand and Australia between July 6 and 11. In Indonesia, defense cooperation is being seen as an important pillar in India-Indonesia relations. There will be special discussion on defense and maritime security. The third India-Australia annual summit will be held between Prime Minister Modi and the Australian Prime Minister in Melbourne, Australia. Critical minerals, trade, investment, clean energy, technology and strategic cooperation will be the main agenda in India-Australia talks.
During his visit to Australia, Prime Minister Modi will hold talks with Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, so that close strategic relations can be further taken forward. External Affairs Minister Jaishankar recently met his Australian counterpart Penny Wong during the Foreign Ministers Framework Dialogue (FMFDs) in New Delhi on May 26.
PM Modi K is expected to address a major community event named ‘Melbourne Meets Modi’ at Marvel Stadium in Melbourne. The event is being organized by the Australia India Foundation and will bring together the Indian diaspora in what is being billed as one of the largest Australia-India community moments in Victoria.
PM’s visit to New Zealand after 40 years
PM Modi’s visit to New Zealand will be the first visit by an Indian Prime Minister in 40 years. According to MEA officials, programs with the Indian diaspora in all three countries will be an important part of the tour. India’s focus with the three countries is to further strengthen Indo-Pacific cooperation, economic partnership and people-to-people ties.
The visit also comes after the two countries signed a free trade agreement on April 27, 2026, and PM Modi’s visit is expected to act as a catalyst and generate momentum in trade and bilateral relations.
Earlier, President Draupadi Murmu visited New Zealand in August 2024, while New Zealand Prime Minister Christopher Luxon visited India in March 2025. More than 10,000 people are expected to attend PM Modi’s community event in Auckland.
Emphasis on strategic partnership
On the other hand, during his state visit to Indonesia, PM Modi and President Prabowo Subianto will talk about further strengthening bilateral relations. President Prabowo Subianto paid a state visit to New Delhi in January 2025 to mark the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations and was the chief guest on India’s 76th Republic Day.
