
Prime Minister Narendra Modi reached Slovakia for the second leg of his two-nation visit. Here PM Modi will talk with President Peter Pellegrini and Prime Minister Robert Fico and meet business leaders. PM Modi is the first Indian Prime Minister to visit Slovakia since independence in 1993. In a post on X after reaching the Slovakian capital on Sunday night, PM Modi said, this visit provides an opportunity to further strengthen India-Slovakia relations and explore new avenues of cooperation. Expecting fruitful talks with President Pellegrini and Prime Minister Fico.
In fact, after bilateral talks with French President Emmanuel Macron in Nice, PM Modi reached Bratislava for a two-day visit (June 14-16). He also participated in the inauguration ceremony of ‘Bharat Innovates’ program in France.
In his statement before the visit, PM Modi said, this historic visit will further take forward the strong momentum of our bilateral relations. I look forward to talks with President Pellegrini and Prime Minister Fico. I will also get a chance to interact with business leaders from Slovakia. PM Modi said that this visit will further strengthen India’s strategic partnership with the European Union, of which Slovakia is an important and valued member.
A statement from the Ministry of External Affairs said that the visit comes after the state visit of President Draupadi Murmu to Slovakia in April 2025 and the visit of Slovakian President Pellegrini to India for the AI Impact Summit in February 2026. The visit will reiterate India’s resolve to strengthen bilateral relations with Slovakia in a number of areas such as trade, investment and automobile and railway manufacturing, the statement issued on June 9 said.
In a post on Twitter on Saturday, Pellegrini said, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, I look forward to welcoming you to Bratislava. Your historic visit will build on our good talks in New Delhi and open up new opportunities for Slovakia-India cooperation. PM Modi will return to France to attend the G7 summit in Evian on June 16-17.
At the summit, PM Modi is expected to discuss issues like international cooperation, economic development and artificial intelligence with G7 leaders and invited partner countries. They will also have many bilateral meetings during this event. The last leg of his visit will be in Paris on June 18, where he will attend Europe’s largest technology and startup event ‘VivaTech 2026’ with President Macron.
