
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is currently on a three-day visit to Seychelles, where on Sunday he met Mauritius Prime Minister Navinchandra Ramgoolam and discussed several issues. The talks focused on wide-ranging areas of bilateral cooperation including maritime security, development partnership, trade, capacity building and people-to-people exchanges. PM Modi mentioned this meeting through one of his social media posts.
PM Modi has written in his post, ‘I had an excellent meeting with the Prime Minister of Mauritius, Dr. Navinchandra Ramgoolam. We met during the AI Summit at the beginning of the year and now we had the opportunity to meet in Seychelles. We discussed ways to strengthen India-Mauritius partnership. The progress being made in every area of our advanced strategic partnership is a matter of satisfaction for us. Many projects are being implemented under our special economic package.
External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said the two Prime Ministers reviewed all aspects of the India-Mauritius Advanced Strategic Partnership including development cooperation, maritime security, trade, capacity building and people-to-people ties. The two leaders reaffirmed their shared commitment to advance cooperation under the Vision Mahasangha, India’s ‘Neighbourhood First’ policy and commitment to the Global South.
PM Modi honored with ‘Guardian of the Blue Horizon’
PM Modi has been awarded the honorary title of ‘Guardian of the Blue Horizon’ by Seychelles. This title was the 34th international honor received by Prime Minister Modi from a foreign nation. PM Modi expressed his gratitude to Seychelles for this honor and dedicated it to the countries which are facing the challenges of climate change.
PM Modi addressed the National Assembly
Prime Minister Modi also addressed the National Assembly of Seychelles during the Golden Jubilee celebrations of Seychelles. During this, he said, ‘Our relations did not start with the establishment of diplomatic relations 50 years ago, but they started much earlier. The Indian Ocean does not separate India and Seychelles, but connects us. That is why we meet not as strangers, but as old friends.
When did Indians come to Seychelles for the first time?
The Prime Minister also highlighted the deep historical and cultural ties between the two countries, whose roots go back to 1770 when Indians first arrived in Seychelles. He said, ‘Being maritime neighbours, we believe that the security of one enhances the security of the other. The prosperity of one contributes to the prosperity of the other. The stability of the region is beneficial for all of us.
