PM Modi met Canada’s Carney and UAE’s Nahyan in France, what happened? every detail

Prime Minister Narendra Modi participated in the G7 summit held in Evian, France on Tuesday (June 16). During this, he met Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney and United Arab Emirates (UAE) President Mohammed bin Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan as well as British Prime Minister Keir Starmer. During this, the leaders discussed various issues including trade, development.

PM Modi held a bilateral meeting with the British Prime Minister. During this, both the leaders reviewed the progress and progress in India-UK relations after their visits last year. Leaders welcomed the progress made under Vision 2035 in trade, economic development, defense and security, climate action, green energy, technology, innovation, education and people-to-people ties.

Expected to implement CETA soon

Both the leaders expressed hope for early implementation of the India-UK Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA). Satisfaction was expressed on the increasing cooperation in the education sector. The progress made by the University of Liverpool towards setting up a campus in Bengaluru was welcomed. Along with this, the initiative of University of York and University of Bristol to set up campus in Mumbai was also mentioned.

Exchange of views on global issues

Prime Minister Modi expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Starmer for Britain’s strong participation in the AI ​​Impact Summit held in Delhi this year. Both the leaders appreciated the progress being made under the IndiaUK Technology Security Initiative. The recently launched IndiaUK Critical Minerals Global Supply Chain Observatory was also welcomed. Apart from this, both the leaders exchanged views on regional and global issues including West Asia and Ukraine. India and Britain reiterated their common commitment to further strengthen the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.

PM Modi met UAE President

Along with this, Prime Minister Narendra Modi also met UAE President Mohammed bin Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan. This was the third meeting of the two leaders in the year 2026, which shows the strength of the India-UAE Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. During this, both the leaders reviewed the progress of bilateral cooperation after the visit of UAE President to India in January 2026 and the visit of Prime Minister Modi to UAE in May 2026.

Emphasis on lasting peace in West Asia

There was discussion between the two leaders on increasing cooperation in technology, trade, investment, energy and defense sectors. Along with this, views were also exchanged on regional and global issues. Along with this, PM Modi stressed on dialogue, diplomacy, respect for international law, sovereignty and territorial integrity for lasting peace, security and stability in West Asia.

President’s invitation to participate in BRICS Summit

India and UAE stressed the need to continue unhindered, safe and free navigation, trade and commerce through the Strait of Hormuz. PM Modi also invited the UAE President to participate in the BRICS Summit to be held in India this year. In this meeting, the commitment to further deepen India-UAE relations and work together for regional stability was reiterated.

PM Modi meets Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney

Apart from this, Prime Minister Narendra Modi also met Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney. Both leaders welcomed the positive momentum in India-Canada relations and expressed satisfaction at the progress made since Carney’s visit to India in March 2026. Both countries reiterated their commitment to strengthen their future-oriented strategic partnership and stressed the importance of strong supply chains for energy and food security. During the meeting, economic cooperation including commercial agreements related to LNG), LPG and metallurgical coal were reviewed.

Welcomes increased exchange of high-level visits

The increased exchange of high-level visits between the two countries was welcomed. Also, there was discussion on the business delegation coming to India under the leadership of the Trade Minister of Canada in 2026. The leaders expressed satisfaction at the progress in the ongoing negotiations on the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) and reiterated the goal of completing the agreement in 2026. Along with this, an agreement was reached between the two countries to increase institutional cooperation in the fields of science and technology, consular affairs, defence, finance and migration.

Decision to strengthen defense and security cooperation

Apart from this, both the countries decided to start negotiations on General Security of Information Agreement (GSOIA) to strengthen defense and security cooperation. The leaders emphasized on increasing cooperation in skill development, innovation and education sector under the Canada-India Talent and Innovation Strategy. PM Modi supported making Canada a dialogue partner in the Indian Ocean Regional Organization (IORA).

Both the leaders announced the establishment of a new dialogue platform called Raisina Americas. Along with this, PM Modi thanked Prime Minister Carney for the invitation to visit Canada in 2026. Both sides agreed to maintain contact at the diplomatic level to decide the date of the visit.
