Planning to do trekking…before doing this definitely keep these 5 important things in mind

June 14, 2026 by Uma Shankar

Physical fitness is most important for trekking. This does not mean that you go to the gym every day and build muscles. For trekking, you should work on increasing body strength as well as muscle flexibility. For this, run daily for a few weeks before trekking. Do activities like swimming, fast walking, cycling.
If you are going for trekking somewhere then it is very important to take care of safety. Follow the guidelines given there like not making too much noise or not touching certain trees and plants. Apart from this, definitely get information about the routes. For this you can take the guide along. The rule of 'Leave No Trace' should be followed, i.e. you should not cause any harm to the environment. Don't spread garbage.
While going trekking, wear clothes that are suitable for the weather, so find out the weather there beforehand. For example, if the weather is hot, choose outfits made of breathable fabric. At the same time, only full sleeve, full pants outfits are always suitable for trekking. This reduces the chances of you getting injured and also protects you from insects.
While packing the bag, apart from taking care of clothes and shoes, definitely pack a first aid box. In fact, many times during trekking, problems like minor injuries, pain in legs, fever due to excessive walking can occur. In such a situation, first aid kit is very useful. Keep some bandages, pain relieving balm, tablets and basic medicines in it.
Apart from mosquitoes, there are many other types of insects in the forest, hence keep antiseptic cream as well as mosquito repellent with you in your trekking bag. You can take a tube of repellent, but spray is better. It is easy to use and it spreads better on your skin.
