The long-running tension between America and Iran is ending. Due to this, there has been a rapid decline in the prices of crude oil. In such a situation, the biggest question in the mind of the common man is whether he will benefit from this slowdown in the international market? Have the rates of petrol and diesel reduced in India today? On Thursday, June 18, 2026, government oil companies have released new rates. Government oil companies did not make any change in the price of fuel in the domestic market.
Fall in crude oil prices
After the start of the Iran war, there was a huge jump of almost 50 percent in the prices of crude oil, but as soon as the news of this peace agreement came, the prices of crude oil fell by more than one percent. On Thursday morning, Brent crude was trading at $ 78.72 per barrel, down 1.04 percent ($ 0.83). At the same time, WTI crude has also fallen by 1.26 percent to $ 75.82 per barrel.
Oil companies are losing crores of rupees
Despite falling crude oil prices, huge losses of oil companies are a major reason behind fuel not becoming cheaper in India. According to Sujata Sharma, Joint Secretary of the Petroleum Ministry, government oil marketing companies are still facing a loss of Rs 3 on every liter of petrol and Rs 27 on diesel. Due to this, companies are incurring losses of around Rs 600 crore every day.
However, it is a matter of relief that on April 1, 2026, this loss was Rs 24 per liter on petrol and Rs 105 per liter on diesel. Till May 18, the daily loss of the companies was at the level of Rs 750 crore, which has now reduced slightly due to the slowdown in the international market.
