It is extremely hot in France these days. Due to the heatwave, many programs from trains to concerts and sports had to be canceled on Sunday, June 21. Currently, about one-third of France is on red alert due to the heat. The temperature reached 40°C in some areas. In such a situation, misting stations (machines that release water spray) have been installed to keep the Eiffel Tower and other places in Paris cool.
WHO has predicted higher than average temperatures this summer. In such a situation, due to the heat, a large number of people across the country may fall ill due to heat stroke in the coming days. Let us also tell you that despite the scorching heat, air conditioning i.e. AC is not used much in France.
Why don’t you use AC even if you have money in your pocket?
It is not that the people of France do not have money to buy AC. France is counted among the rich countries. They have their own reasons behind using AC. In fact, for decades there was not much heat in France. In such a situation, AC was not used in most of the houses and apartments.
The structure of old houses and buildings is also a reason
However, now due to the continuous increase in temperature, the need for AC has been felt here. But, buildings in many cities of France, especially Paris, are hundreds of years old. The walls of these buildings are thick and the ceilings are high. In such a situation, it is not easy to install AC on such buildings. Installing AC in these old houses and buildings is proving to be very expensive.
French people place emphasis on environment
One reason behind less use of AC in France is that here a lot of attention is paid to energy efficiency and reducing carbon emissions. In such a situation, people make more use of fans, shutters, curtains and natural ventilation to keep their houses cool and avoid the use of air conditioning.
Only 20 to 25 houses in France have AC
The heat level in France is increasing year by year. However, the demand for AC is increasing rapidly, especially in new homes, offices, hotels and shopping centers, ACs are being seen more than before. At present, only 20 to 25 percent of the houses in France have AC. These figures have also increased in recent years. Around the year 2022, only 7 to 10 percent of the houses in France had the availability of AC.
