Most of the people of Pakistan feel that their country is not going in the right direction. This has come to light in a survey by market research company Ipsos. According to the survey, only 2 out of 10 Pakistanis i.e. 20% people believe that the country is on the right path, while 80% people say that Pakistan is moving in the wrong direction.
This survey was done last month. In this, more than 1,000 people from the four provinces of Pakistan, Islamabad, Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) were interviewed. According to the survey, people’s confidence in the direction of the country has dropped to 22%. In the same year, during the US-Iran tension, this figure had increased to 40%, but now it has fallen again rapidly.
Corona like situation in Pakistan
According to the report, the situation has now become almost like during the Covid-19 pandemic. People described inflation, unemployment and economic problems as the biggest problems of the country. When people were asked about the state of the economy, only 1 in 5 people i.e. 20 percent said that Pakistan’s economy is strong.
The survey revealed that men have more hope than women. Young people also appeared more positive than the elderly. At the same time, people in rural areas have more trust than those living in cities.
People of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa are more optimistic
Among the provinces, people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa were found to be the most optimistic. Apart from this, more positive thinking was seen among the people of Sindh and Balochistan as compared to Punjab. People of lower-middle income group also expressed more confidence than other income groups.
People’s confidence in purchasing household items is also very weak. Only 7% people said that they feel comfortable buying items for home. This figure was slightly better among the youth, upper-middle class, urban areas and people of Sindh. However, this level has now become like the Covid period.
Bad environment for investment also
Only 20% people hope that Pakistan’s economy will improve in the coming time. This expectation was mainly seen in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Balochistan, rural areas, affluent areas and elderly people. There is also very little confidence regarding investment. Only 14% people said that the investment environment is good. At the same time, the number of people who felt comfortable in making big purchases was only 5%.
