Allahabad High Court, while hearing the Ram Temple offering theft case and corruption, made very strong comments and said that corruption has now become a normal thing in the country. The court said that even the case of theft in donations for Ram temple could not embarrass the people, which shows the lowest level of honesty. If the government really wants to curb corruption, then it should consider amending the law and making a provision for even death penalty in serious cases.
Justice Atul Sreedharan recorded these comments in his judgment during the hearing of other petitions including that of Hamirpur’s Kaifuddin. The petitioners had demanded a stop to the bulldozer action and protection. Justice Siddharth Nand was also included in the division bench hearing this case, who expressed different opinions on some points.
Officers close their eyes after taking bribe: HC
The High Court said that illegal constructions come up due to the connivance of some corrupt officials of the Municipal Corporation and other authorities. Officials turn a blind eye to bribes and when action is taken, the common buyer has to suffer the consequences. The court also said that along with the builders carrying out illegal construction, the corrupt officials who patronize them should also be given strict punishment as per the law.
The gap between rich and poor is increasing due to corruption: HC
Referring to the increasing inequality due to corruption, the court said that due to corruption, wealth is being illegally accumulated in the hands of some people, due to which the gap between the rich and the poor is continuously increasing. If this is not effectively stopped in time, then social dissatisfaction and serious situations may arise in the future.
Mentioned about theft of Ram temple offerings
In his 51-page judgment, Justice Atul Sreedharan said that the controversy of donation theft in Ram temple proved to be the last straw on the camel’s back. The court said that if the society is not disturbed even by the theft of donations at such a sensitive religious place, then it is a serious sign of the falling level of honesty.
The High Court also mentioned the Transparency International 2025 report in its decision and said that India is ranked 91st out of 182 countries, but despite this, the required sensitivity regarding corruption is not visible in the society.
Important instructions on bulldozer action also
The court said that after an FIR is registered against an accused, his house should not be demolished for two years. If a person has been living in a house for 3 years or more, then a notice of one year before demolition should be given and an opportunity to make alternative arrangements should be given.
However, Justice Siddharth Nand disagreed on this point and said that under Article 226 of the Constitution, the High Court cannot fix any specific time limit, such as 2 years. He was of the opinion that such a provision could become a means for the accused to misuse the FIR to avoid action in future.
