‘Power Star’ Pawan Singh has once again become active in Bihar politics. The surprising thing is that this time too Pawan Singh has emerged as a challenge to the political strategy of Rashtriya Lok Morcha (RLM) chief Upendra Kushwaha. In fact, it is said that Pawan Singh played an important role in the defeat of Upendra Kushwaha on Karakat seat in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. After this, their hopes regarding Bihar Legislative Council elections have got another blow.
There is discussion in political circles that Deepak Prakash, a minister in the Bihar government and son of Upendra Kushwaha, could have been sent to the Legislative Council. It was expected that he would get one of the 9 vacant seats, but Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) changed the political equations by fielding Pawan Singh in place of Deepak Prakash. According to sources, BJP had proposed that Upendra Kushwaha merge his party with BJP. However, despite initial consent, the process could not move forward. Since then, speculations have intensified that BJP did not give due importance to the Kushwaha camp during the selection of candidates for the Legislative Council.
Deepak Prakash became minister twice
Deepak Prakash has taken oath as a minister twice, even though he is neither a member of the Legislative Assembly nor of the Legislative Council. According to constitutional provisions, a person can remain a minister for a maximum of six months without becoming a member of any House. After this, it becomes mandatory to become a member of the Assembly or Council. As a result, Deepak Prakash now faces the challenge of securing such membership.
Upendra Kushwaha in trouble
Political analysts believe that Upendra Kushwaha is now in a difficult situation. If he decides to part ways with the NDA, questions may arise whether his party’s MLAs will remain with him. Of the four MLAs of Rashtriya Lok Morcha, three have already expressed their dissatisfaction, while the fourth MLA is his wife.
What will be Kushwaha’s next step?
Amidst the changing political scenario of Bihar, BJP is now giving preference to Samrat Chaudhary instead of Upendra Kushwaha to represent the Kushwaha community. In such a situation, it will be interesting to see in the coming days whether Upendra Kushwaha remains with NDA or chooses a new political path.
