
If you are thinking of getting a passport made, then it will be expensive from next month as the government has increased the passport fees for the first time in almost 14 years. For a new passport from July 1, 2026, you will have to spend Rs 1000 to Rs 2500 more. Whether you are applying for a passport for the first time, renewing an old passport, getting a new passport made in place of a lost passport or getting a passport for your child, the fees have been increased in every category. If you were delaying in applying for passport, now without any delay you can apply for passport sitting at home today itself.
Passport Fees in India: These will be the new prices from July 1
- For people aged 18 years and above and minors aged 15 to 18 years applying in the adult category, a charge of Rs 2500 will be charged for normal processing of a new or re-issued 36 page passport, currently this charge is Rs 1500.
- Currently, a fee of Rs 3500 (36 pages) is charged for Tatkal, but from 1st, you will have to spend Rs 5000.
- If you get a 60 page passport (normal) made in the adult category, Rs 2000 will be charged, but from July 1, you will have to spend Rs 3500.
- Currently, a fee of Rs 4000 is charged for 60 page Tatkal Passport, from 1st you will have to spend Rs 6000.
- Currently, a fee of Rs 5000 is charged for a lost or damaged 36 page Tatkal Passport, but from 1st, Rs 7000 will be charged.
- In minor category, Rs 1000 is charged for 36 page passport (normal), from 1st date the fee will increase to Rs 1750.
- In minor category, for 36 pages (Tatkal), a fee of Rs 4250 will be charged instead of Rs 3000.
- There is no change in the validity of the passport, the standard passport remains valid for 10 years, while the minor’s passport remains valid for 5 years or till the passport holder turns 18 (whichever is earlier).
How to Apply Passport Online
Passport Go to the service online portal (passportindia.gov.in). As soon as the site opens, you will see the Apply for Passport option in the quick links, click on this option. On the next page you will be asked in which category you have to apply Fresh/Re-issue, Tatkal Passport, Diplomatic/Official Passport. Select category.

After clicking on the category option, you will see the Register button on the next page, click on it or go directly to https://services1.passportindia.gov.in/. If you have already created an account then sign in, otherwise sign up and create an account and then after logging into the account, fill the required information and submit the fees.

Note: You will have to reset the password every three months because the password expires.
