29-year-old TV actor Rohit Chandel, who was seen in famous TV serials like ‘Pandya Store’ and ‘Kashibai Bajirao Ballal’, has been arrested by Mumbai Police. Rohit Chandel has been accused of stalking, harassing and assaulting a 16-year-old minor girl. Taking a tough stand in this matter, the police have imposed several serious sections of the Indian Justice Code (BNS) including the POCSO Act against the actor. These days, Rohit Chandel is playing an important role in Star Plus’ prime time serial ‘Sairab’. After this big news came out, there was a stir on the sets of the serial and for the last two days, a complete ban (no permission) has been imposed on the movement of media there.
If sources are to be believed, Mumbai’s Pant Nagar Police took a major action on Friday and arrested Rohit Chandel from his house in Dahisar. After the arrest, the actor was produced in the court under POCSO (Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses Act), from where the court sent him to police custody. The police is currently investigating this entire matter in depth.
There is an allegation of constant calling and stalking.
Police have registered this case on the complaint of a woman resident of Eastern Suburbs of Mumbai. It has been alleged in the complaint that Rohit Chandel had been calling the minor girl repeatedly from his number as well as from many different phone numbers for some time, due to which she had become mentally disturbed. According to the police, accused Rohit and the minor girl already knew each other.
Claim of assault after being stopped on the way on 5th July
According to the complaint lodged, the matter was not limited to phone calls only. It is alleged that on July 5, Rohit Chandel stopped the girl near her own residential building. When the girl started leaving from there, Rohit followed her, argued with her, abused her and it reached the limit when the actor even beat her with his hands.
These serious legal sections are imposed
In this entire matter, Pant Nagar Police has registered a case against Rohit Chandel under the POCSO Act as well as Section 78 (stalking/stalking) and Section 115(2) (intentionally causing hurt) of the Indian Code of Justice (BNS).
Can Rohit be replaced?
Due to such serious allegations against the lead actor of the prime time show ‘Sairab’ of a big channel like Star Plus, not only Rohit’s career but also the reputation of the channel and the goodwill of the show is directly under threat. According to TV9 Hindi Digital’s sources, after this incident, continuous meetings are going on among the makers and they are thinking deeply about what to do if this matter escalates further. Generally, it is very difficult to get bail in cases registered under POCSO Act and due to this
The biggest problem has arisen regarding the telecast of the show, because in the format of daily soap, episodes have to be aired every day and the makers do not have the bank of many days to shoot the episodes in advance. Especially when it comes to the main character of the show, without him it becomes impossible to take the story forward or maintain the stock of episodes.
In such a situation, speculations are rife that if Rohit’s custody prolongs further, then keeping in mind the future and image of the show, the makers may take a big decision to replace Rohit soon. However, till now neither the channel nor the makers have given any official confirmation or statement on this entire matter.
