From Saturday 30th May in Rawalpindi Pakistan A series of 3 ODI matches will start between India and Australia. While many senior players of the Australian team, including regular captain Pat Cummins, will not be able to play for this series due to being busy in IPL 2026, the Pakistani team is ready to give everything to win. Pakistan Cricket Board announced the squad for this series on Friday, May 22, in which some surprising decisions were also seen.
Shaheen’s captaincy remains intact, Rizwan out
Before the Test, Pakistan also had to face defeat in the ODI series at the hands of Bangladesh in March. Despite this, Shaheen Shah Afridi’s captaincy remains intact. Whereas Salman Ali Aga has been made the vice-captain. A major decision has been taken regarding experienced wicketkeeper-batsman Mohammad Rizwan, who has been dropped from the team. He flopped badly in the ODI series but his performance was better in the recent Test series.
Babar Azam has returned to the team for this series. He did not get a place in the ODI series with Bangladesh. While playing in only one match of the recent Test series, he batted well. Apart from them, fast bowlers Haris Rauf, Naseem Shah and spinner Sufyan Muqeem have also returned.
Return of this player after 31 months
But the most surprising decision has been taken regarding spin all-rounder Shadab Khan, who has been called in the ODI team after almost 31 months. Shadab played his last ODI match in the 2023 World Cup. Apart from this, 3 new players have also been included in the form of Arafat Minhas, Ahmed Daniyal and Rohail Nazir. In this, Nazir will be in the role of wicketkeeper but before him, Muhammad Ghazi Ghauri will get preference in this responsibility. As far as the series is concerned, it will be played in Rawalpindi and Lahore from 30th May to 4th June.
