Assam Train Accident: A painful train accident took place on Naranarayan Setu in Jogighopa, Assam on Monday. In this accident, two laborers engaged in the construction and maintenance work of the railway died on the spot, while two others were seriously injured. There was chaos on the spot after the accident. As soon as the information was received, railway officials, local administration and relief and rescue teams reached the spot. The injured were immediately admitted to the nearest hospital, where their treatment is ongoing.
According to the information, all four laborers were walking on foot for construction and maintenance work on the railway track. During this time there was movement of trains from opposite directions. It is being told that meanwhile all four laborers became victims of an accident after being hit by a speeding goods train. The collision was so severe that two laborers died on the spot, while two others were seriously injured.
Two died in the accident
According to eyewitnesses, the accident happened suddenly and the workers did not get a chance to recover or save themselves. After the incident, the local people immediately started relief work and helped in taking the injured out of the track and taking them to the hospital. Railway Protection Force and local police also reached the spot and controlled the situation.
Railway officials have started investigating the incident. In the initial investigation, efforts are being made to find out whether safety standards were followed at the time of the accident or not. Besides, it is also being investigated whether the employees working on the tracks were given prior information about the movement of trains or not. The concerned officials are being interrogated to find out the cause of the accident.
Two are undergoing treatment
After this accident, the railway administration has expressed condolences to the families of the deceased labourers. An assurance has been given to make arrangements for better treatment of the injured. Officials say that after the investigation report comes, if negligence is revealed at any level, then action will be taken against the people responsible as per rules.
At present, this accident has raised serious questions on the safety arrangements during railway construction works. The local administration and the Railway Department are engaged in a detailed investigation of the entire matter, so that the real causes of the accident can be found out and such incidents can be prevented from recurring in future.
