May 21, 2026 by Uma Shankar

this story Delhi Gaurav Kawatra (Gaurav Kawatra) of a person named, who was on the cloud of success at the age of 37. In 2018, he was posted as a director in a Chinese multinational company. His annual package was Rs 70 lakh, which means Rs 5 lakh came into his account every month. Life was going perfectly. He took a home loan of Rs 2 crore to buy his dream house. But he had no idea that life was going to take a U-turn in the very next moment.

All dreams shattered in one fell swoop

The date of 12 September 2018 became the darkest page of Gaurav’s life, when without any warning the company terminated him on the pretext of poor performance. The management clearly said that they are not happy with his work and he is being fired with immediate effect. Recently, while expressing his pain on LinkedIn, Gaurav wrote, I was given only 3 days’ notice. I was shown the door without any severance package. At that time it felt as if my entire self-respect, my identity had been snatched away from me.

That period of panic attacks and 15 cigarettes

The time after leaving the job was no less than hell. There was a debt of Rs 2 crore on his head and his pocket was empty. But Gaurav did not lose courage and made 108 calls one by one in search of work, but got only disappointment from all sides. The state of stress was such that he started having panic attacks at 3-3 in the night. When he started staying at home the whole day, the neighbors started getting prying eyes. The limit was reached when his innocent daughter asked him a question to which the helpless father had no answer.

To reduce depression, he started smoking 12 to 15 cigarettes a night. It took him a long time of 8 years to get rid of this deadly addiction. While giving advice to the youth today, he says that money can be earned again, but once the body and health get spoiled, it is impossible to get it back.

Life taught me a big lesson

He shared a very beautiful mathematics of life, if you try in difficult times, 70 people will simply ignore you. There will be 30 people who will only express sympathy but will not help. Only 5 people will open their doors for you and out of those 5, there will be one person who will change your entire life.
