
Omkareshwar Jyotirlinga: Lord Shiva is considered the god of destruction in religious scriptures. There are 12 Jyotirlingas in God’s country. Every Jyotirlinga has its own importance and glory. Omkareshwar Jyotirlinga is one of these 12 Jyotirlingas. This Jyotirlinga is situated in Khandwa district of Madhya Pradesh. This holy temple of Lord Shiva is situated on Omkar Mountain built on an island in the middle of Narmada River.
There is a mythological belief that here King Mandhata and Kuber Dev Ji, descendants of Lord Ram, performed rigorous penance for Lord Shiva. Pleased with that penance, Mahadev appeared before him and established himself here in the form of a Jyotirlinga. It is believed that Omkareshwar Jyotirlinga is self-manifested. It means that it has manifested itself here. No one has established it. It is believed that the Narmada river itself has surrounded this Jyotirlinga from all sides. Its importance is much greater than this.
Mahadev and Mata Parvati come to rest
There are many mysteries in Omkareshwar temple. According to beliefs, every night Lord Shiva and Mother Parvati come to rest in Omkareshwar temple. Here a secret Shayan Aarti takes place at night, in which only one priest of the temple is present. After this the doors of the temple are closed. Before closing the doors of the temple, backgammon and dice are kept here.
Lord Shiva and Mother Parvati also play backgammon
The surprising thing is that when the doors of the temple are opened in the morning, backgammon and dice are found scattered. It is believed that here Lord Shiva and Mother Parvati first play backgammon and then rest. There is a religious belief that by visiting Omkareshwar Jyotirlinga, all sins are destroyed and one attains salvation after death.
Apart from this, the mind gets peace by visiting Omkareshwar Jyotirling. Gets relief from life’s problems. Parikrama of Omkar Parvat in Omkareshwar also has special significance. It is believed that circling this mountain increases positive and virtuous energy in life.
