The luck of a man living in New Jersey, America suddenly shined when he found a forgotten lottery ticket in the pocket of his old pants. The surprising thing was that there were only a few days left for the validity of that ticket to end. When he got the ticket checked, it came to light that he had become the winner of a jackpot worth crores of rupees. This incident not only shocked the man, but also gave lottery officials an opportunity to advise people to keep their old tickets safely.
According to media reports, this man from New Jersey had bought a Pick-6 lottery ticket from a petrol station in May last year. He often used to go to the same petrol pump and sometimes even bought tickets from there. After buying the ticket, he kept it somewhere and then gradually he completely forgot that he even had a lottery ticket. Time passed and for months he had no idea that he was holding a ticket worth crores of rupees.

Here, a public announcement was issued by the Lottery Department last month. Officials said that a huge prize worth crores of rupees has not been claimed by anyone yet and its deadline is going to end soon. On hearing this news, that person’s attention immediately went towards it. Because the petrol station mentioned in the announcement was the same place from where he often bought tickets.
At first he did not believe it, but both curiosity and nervousness arose in his mind. He reached the same petrol pump and talked to the employees working there. The staff told him that the number of regular customers who play pick-6 is very small. The staff advised him to thoroughly check the old items, drawers and clothes kept in his house. After hearing this, he decided to return home and search for the ticket.
After this he started searching every corner of his house. He opened the shelves, looked through the store room, searched through old bags and even started looking into the pockets of pants that had not been worn for many months. After searching for a long time, his eyes finally fell on an old pant. When he put his hand in his pocket, a folded lottery ticket came out from there. Seeing the ticket gave him hope, but he was still not completely convinced.
He immediately checked the numbers written on the ticket. As soon as the numbers matched, he was stunned for a few moments. He realized that he was holding the same jackpot ticket which was being discussed for the last several days. This ticket was worth about 5.9 million dollars i.e. about 57 crore rupees in Indian currency. Hearing the news of winning such a huge amount, he was filled with both joy and surprise. He contacted the lottery office without any delay and claimed his prize money just eight days before the validity of the ticket expired.
Lottery officials later made this incident an example and appealed to the people to keep checking their old tickets from time to time. Officials said that many times after purchasing tickets, people forget them by keeping them in pockets, drawers or old luggage. As a result, prizes worth lakhs of rupees remain unclaimed.

According to officials, it is rare for big jackpot prizes to remain unclaimed, but thousands of tickets with smaller prizes go unclaimed every year.
