June 26, 2026 by Uma Shankar

Strange news often goes viral on social media, but today we are going to tell you about such an interesting place, knowing about which you will be really surprised. Here we are talking about the only town in the world where husband and wife living under the same roof speak two different languages.

This shocking incident took place in ‘Ubang’ (ubang) is from a small town named. The residents here have been following a very unique tradition for centuries. In this place men and women use completely different words and dialects to call the same thing. The interesting thing is that not only is the tone or pronunciation of these words different, but their letters also have nothing to do with each other. These are two completely different languages.

How do both understand each other?

Obviously now this question must be coming in your mind that if languages are so different, then how do they communicate with each other? In fact, despite speaking differently, the men and women here understand each other’s language very easily. Due to listening to both the languages since childhood, they have complete understanding of both the dialects. While men call the cloth ‘Naki’, women use the word ‘Ariga’ for it. For men, the word tree means ‘kitschy’, while women call it ‘okwang’.

How do children learn this unique language?

In Ubang, whenever a child is born, whether it is a boy or a girl, the first thing he learns is the women’s language (Araseke) only learns to speak. This happens because in childhood, children spend most of their time with their mother and other women in the house.

changes at age 10

When the boy is about 10 years old, he gradually abandons women’s words and adopts men’s language. However, if a boy does not start speaking men’s language after a certain age, then he is not considered normal in the society. Also read: The room is gleaming with gold from top to bottom! The folk tale behind it

The elders here consider this unique tradition to be completely spiritual. According to local folklore, when God was spreading languages across the world, he first started from the town of Ubang. He gave this place two different languages. But later they realized that if they did this everywhere, there would be less languages for the rest of the world. So they stopped ahead, and thus this unique boon remained forever on Ubang’s part. Even today the people here consider it a special blessing of God.
