Can a person earn around Rs 3 lakh every month just by working part time? This may sound difficult at first glance, but the story of Britain’s 23-year-old Scarlet Nation tells something else. She does not work in any big company nor does she have any expensive business setup. She made buying and selling of old clothes a means of earning and today she is earning good income from this work. Scarlett is studying business and finance. When she started living outside her home to study at university, she started having trouble managing rent, food and daily expenses. The money received from student finance was not enough to meet all the needs. On top of that, some earlier bills were also outstanding, due to which the financial pressure was continuously increasing.
At such a time, he thought that he should find a way by which his studies would not be affected and he could also earn some extra money. During this time, while using social media, his eyes fell on Facebook Marketplace. There he saw a big bundle of vintage clothes, which included about 120 clothes, for about 40 pounds. The price was low, so he bought it without thinking much. After bringing it home, he examined each cloth and started preparing to sell them online.
How much do you earn?
The biggest surprise came when a dress in the same bundle was sold for 50 pounds. That means, by selling just one dress, she earned more money than the cost of the entire bundle. After this his confidence increased and he started listing other clothes also. Scarlett says that in the first week she sold about 2,000 pounds. The special thing was that he still had a lot of clothes left, which he later sold and earned separately. This was the moment when he realized that this could become not just a hobby but a good business.
Today, Scarlett is earning around 2,500 pounds every month i.e. around 3 lakhs in Indian rupees. She says that a small decision changed her entire life. Now, along with studies, they also get a chance to spend time with friends, hang out and travel, because this work is completely according to their time. Their business model is quite simple. She buys good quality old fashionable clothes at low prices from Facebook Marketplace, vintage wholesale websites and other online platforms. After this, she cleans the clothes, takes good photographs of them and sells them profitably on online resale platforms.
Scarlett specifically sells vintage jackets, crochet-style dresses, low-waist shorts and fashion accessories. He says that the preferences of customers keep changing according to the season. For example, sales of fashion accessories are higher in summer. Apart from this, the color of clothes also has a great impact on sales. Clothes with the right color and right design get sold quickly. The interesting thing is that despite earning so well, she does not spend much time in this work. She spends only about 8 hours a week in preparing new product listings, answering customer questions and finding new stock. The rest of the time she concentrates on her studies.
Study is useful in real life
Recently he spent 100 pounds and bought another bundle of 20 clothes. Out of those, only three clothes were sold for 40 pounds each. That means the initial cost was almost completely recovered. After this, whatever money came from the sale of all the remaining clothes became direct profit. Scarlett says that this business not only gave her income but also taught her many important things. He learned how to run a small business, how to talk to customers, how to handle tax related work and how to take right decisions in buying and selling. The things she read in books in university, she is now getting a chance to use in real life also.
Now she also shares her experiences on social media so that other people can also make such a start. Seeing their success, many university students have also started selling their old clothes online. Some people are even preparing to start a small reselling business and Scarlett shares her experiences with them. His plan regarding the future is also clear. Even after completing her studies, she does not want to stop this work.
