Obsession: ‘Obsession’ beats ‘Hai Jawaani To Ishq Hona Hai’, forget earnings, now Varun Dhawan’s movie lags behind in this matter

June 15, 2026 by Uma Shankar

Obsession Beats Varun Dhawan Film: Hollywood films keep releasing in India every now and then, but these days ‘Obsession’ is capturing the box office. There is so much craze for this film that it has been 17 days since its release in India and till now its tickets are being sold in full swing. This film, which released in theaters in May, is also beating the Bollywood films released in June. Now this film has also left behind Varun Dhawan’s ‘Hai Jawaani To Ishq Hona Hai’. In the last 24 hours, 86 thousand tickets of ‘Obsession’ were sold, whereas ‘Hai Jawaani To Ishq Hona Hai’ could sell only 46 thousand tickets.

The English horror thriller film ‘Obsession’, released on 29 May 2026, had neither a big star nor a big budget, but still it has achieved a feat which big films cannot do. In contrast, ‘Hai Jawaani Toh Ishq Hona Hai’ was released on June 5, 2026, starring well-known Bollywood actors like Varun Dhawan, Pooja Hegde and Mrunal Thakur and was also supported by tremendous promotion. Despite having big stars and a big budget, ‘Hai Jawaani To Ishq Hona Hai’ could not leave behind the obsession of low budget.

Obsession has overtaken youth to love ishna hai

According to BookMyShow trends, around 86 thousand tickets of ‘Obsession’ were booked in the last 24 hours, while only around 46 thousand tickets of ‘Hai Jawaani To Ishq Hona Hai’ were sold. That means English horror films are selling almost twice as many tickets as Hindi films. The interesting thing is that this is the third week of ‘Obsession’, whereas only 10 days have passed since the release of ‘Hai Jawaani Toh Ishq Hona Hai’.

How much did Obsession make?

Talking about earnings, ‘Obsession’ has so far collected Rs 2500 crore worldwide and has crossed the Rs 70 crore mark in India. At the same time, ‘Hai Jawaani To Ishq Hona Hai’ has so far earned only Rs 63.7 crore worldwide and has collected only Rs 44.31 crore at the domestic box office.
