Now there are no riots in UP, peace even on Muharram… Before 2017, there was curfew for months; CM Yogi’s attack on SP in Hathras

June 28, 2026 by Uma Shankar

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath inaugurated and laid the foundation stone of development schemes worth Rs 548 crore in Hathras on Sunday (June 28). During this he addressed the public. He specifically mentioned Muharram. He said that this time around 12 thousand Moharram processions took place in the state, but there were no situations like riots, stone pelting or curfew anywhere. He said that earlier some people used to spoil the atmosphere by playing drums and cymbals in front of others’ houses, but now all this has stopped and all religious events are being conducted with peace and harmony.

CM said that before 2017, there were riots in every district of the state, there was curfew for months due to which the common people were troubled. But today the situation has changed. He said that earlier Uttar Pradesh was infamous due to riots and curfew, but in the last 9 years there was neither any riot, nor curfew imposed, nor hooliganism was allowed to happen in the state.

‘Moharram celebration was completed peacefully’

He said that recently the celebration of Moharram was also completed peacefully. He said that earlier in the name of Moharram, weapons were displayed on the streets and pedestrians used to be attacked during sword fighting. In the name of taking out Tajiya, huts of the poor were removed, balconies of houses were broken and pressure was created to remove high tension power lines.

CM Yogi said that his government has made a clear arrangement that no poor person’s hut or house will be removed nor will the high tension lines be removed. He said that if necessary the height of Tajiya will have to be reduced. He said that if the Tajiya is too high then there will be a danger of getting hit by the high tension line, hence safety is paramount.

‘The height of the Taj Mahal will have to be limited’

He said that now there is no uproar in the state in the name of Muharram. Now neither anyone’s hut is demolished nor anyone faces any kind of problem. He said that you can decorate the Tajiya, but there is no need to demolish the house of any poor person. He said that the height of Tajiya will have to be limited. If the crown is too high, there will be a danger of getting hit by electrical wires.

‘Development is possible only when there is a better security environment’

The Chief Minister said that he has come specially to gift development projects worth about Rs 550 crore to the three assembly constituencies of Hathras—Hathras, Sadabad and Sikandrarau. He congratulated all the citizens and public representatives of Hathras district for this. He said that development is possible only when there is a better security environment. He said that the hopes and aspirations of development can be fulfilled only in a safe environment. He said that where there is no security, where there is an atmosphere of riots and anarchy, development and a bright future cannot even be imagined.

‘Earlier there used to be riots in every district of the state’

He said that before 2017, which district of the state was untouched by riots? Referring to the Jawahar Bagh incident in Mathura, Kosikalan riots, Meerut and Aligarh riots and the violence in Muzaffarnagar, he said that curfew was imposed every day at that time. Due to this, the business of the common people was ruined, the jobs of the youth were affected, life was disrupted and the image of the state was tarnished in the entire country.

The Chief Minister said that earlier traders, farmers and common citizens in the state used to feel unsafe. There was looting everywhere and there was a threat to the safety of the daughters. He said that the BJP government has strengthened law and order by taking strict action against criminals and mafia. He said that today Uttar Pradesh is moving fast on the path of mafia-free and development and is emerging as the growth engine of the country’s economy.

Attack on Samajwadi Party

In his address, the CM attacked the Samajwadi Party and said that he read the statement of Akhilesh Yadav, in which it was talked about making Ayodhya a religious city. He said whether you will make Ayodhya a religious city, first look at your history. He said that your government had fired bullets on Ram devotees. He claimed that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Ayodhya is regaining its glorious identity today.

Yogi Adityanath alleged that during the Samajwadi Party government, events like Krishna Janmashtami were also stopped and Kanwar Yatra was banned. He said that today the state government is carrying forward religious traditions and faith-based events with respect. He said that more than 22 temples will be beautified in Hathras. He said that the money which was earlier spent on the construction of boundary walls of cemeteries, is now being used for the development and beautification of temples. He said that his government is carrying forward development works without discrimination and an environment of good governance and security has been established in the state.

Rained heavily on Congress also

Chief Minister Yogi said that Congress and Samajwadi Party have always been trying to mislead the public. He said that during the Lok Sabha elections, both the parties were talking about saving the Constitution, whereas it was the Congress that killed the Constitution by imposing emergency on June 25, 1975. He said that Congress did the biggest insult to the Constitution made by Baba Saheb Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar.
