
The world will now be able to know in more detail the official and authentic history of the capital of India, Delhi, which has been preserved in records, manuscripts, archaeological sites and monuments for centuries. To scientifically study, document and digitize this heritage of Delhi, which has witnessed thousands of years of history and many civilizations, the Delhi Government has approved the Archives Research Fellowship and Archaeological Research Fellowship schemes. Through these schemes, the way will be paved to convey the history of the capital in a research-based and authentic form to the new generation and researchers from all over the world.
For this purpose, both these fellowships have been approved by the Cabinet of Delhi Government. Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has said that Delhi is not only the capital of the country, but is also a living heritage of thousands of years of history, culture and civilization. Conservation of this priceless heritage, its scientific study, systematic documentation and ensuring its accessibility to the new generation is the priority of the Delhi Government. Fellowship has been approved for this very purpose. He informed that the objective of the Archives Research Fellowship is to promote high level research on records, strengthen records management, encourage digitization of historical records and make it easier for people to access documents of historical importance.
What will be the benefit of this scheme?
This scheme will provide an institutional platform to researchers, epigraphic experts, conservation experts, historians, linguists and heritage experts for special studies on various topics of history and epigraphic science related to Delhi. Under this fellowship, work will be done on records management, conservation and preservation of archival material, digitization of records, dissemination of information and data, micro-filming and reprography, research and publications and especially on subjects related to oriental languages like Urdu and Persian. Under this scheme, a total of 15 fellows will be appointed every year for a period of one year, who will be given a fellowship ranging from Rs 25 to 50 thousand.
Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said that the objective of the Archaeological Research Fellowship is to study, conserve and promote the rich archaeological sites and monuments of Delhi. Through this scheme, research related to history, archaeology, architecture and conservation of lesser-known historical monuments of Delhi will be promoted, which will give a new impetus to heritage conservation as well as tourism. Under this scheme, a total of 12 fellows will be appointed every year for a period of one year. They will also be provided fellowship of Rs 25 to 50 thousand per month.
A group of experts will be formed
Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said that both these fellowship schemes will create a strong group of trained and skilled experts in the field of archives, archeology and heritage conservation. This will give a new direction to academic research and ensure a significant contribution to the preservation of the documentary and archaeological heritage of Delhi. Detailed guidelines related to eligibility, application process, selection process and other terms and conditions for both the schemes will be notified separately by the respective departments. Both the fellowship schemes are expected to be launched soon after the operational guidelines are issued.
