
Nepal’s Prime Minister Balen Shah will not say anything at the moment regarding the border dispute with India. This decision has been taken by Nepal’s ruling Rashtriya Swatantra Party. Party chief Ravi Lamichhane gave this information in the all-party meeting on Monday (June 8) at Singh Darbar in Kathmandu. According to Lamichhane, now the border dispute will be discussed within the party first. After this only Foreign Minister Shishir Khanal will talk on this.
According to e-Kantipur media, Lamichhane said that border dispute Efforts are being made to solve it. This may be affected by the Prime Minister’s statement. Now only Foreign Minister Khanal will speak on this. If needed, I will give a statement on this.
Why was Balen silenced?
1. On May 31, Balen Shah had given a statement in the Parliament of Nepal regarding the border dispute. According to Balen, the Government of Nepal has captured some lands of India. Balen did not stop here, he said that Nepal has sought help from Britain and China to resolve the border dispute.
There has been an uproar in Nepal over the statement of occupation, while India reacted strongly to the entry of a third country in the dispute. The Prime Minister had to go on the backfoot regarding both the statements. Nepal’s Parliament has not been functioning for the last one week.
2. Talks have started regarding the border dispute between Nepal and India. Nepal’s Foreign Minister came to New Delhi on Friday (June 5). Here the Foreign Minister talked to his counterpart. On returning to Kathmandu, the Foreign Minister described the talks as positive. In such a situation, the statement of Nepal’s PM can derail this conversation.
According to Indian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal, 98 percent of the border dispute between Nepal and India has been resolved. There is controversy at some places due to the diversion of the flow of Gandak river. Both sides can sit together and resolve this.
Border dispute between Nepal and India
Nepal claims that it did not get the lands it was supposed to get under the Sugauli Treaty of 1816. According to Nepal, due to change in the course of rivers, some lands have gone to India’s part. Apart from this, there is also controversy regarding the origin of Kali River.
According to Nepal’s Foreign Minister Shishir Khanal, old documents are being collected to resolve the dispute. He says that in the coming time both the parties will sit together and resolve the entire dispute. The border dispute between India and Nepal came into discussion again in 2019.
