Now Iran attacks Saudi oil tanker, chaos in Hormuz amid ceasefire

July 7, 2026 by Uma Shankar

Tension has once again increased in the Strait of Hormuz, which is counted among the world’s most important sea routes. A Saudi Arabian flagged crude oil tanker was damaged. Shortly before this, Qatar’s LNG tanker also came under attack in the same area. It is not yet clear how the attack took place, but with two ships being targeted consecutively, the eyes of the whole world have focused on this sea route.

The Strait of Hormuz is very important for the world because a large part of the Gulf countries send oil and gas to the world through this route. In such a situation, any kind of military incident or attack here is not limited only to the Middle East, but it can also affect the international oil market, shipping and energy supply. After the recent incident, there was a rise in the prices of crude oil, because the fear of supply disruption started troubling the market.

What happened in Hormuz?

According to reports, a Saudi-flagged oil tanker was damaged in the Strait of Hormuz near the coast of Oman. Earlier, Qatar’s LNG tanker had also become a victim of attack in the same area. However, in both the incidents, information has come out that the crew is safe. The real reason for the attack and those responsible have not been officially confirmed yet. However, this shows that passing through Hormuz is still full of dangers.

Why is Hormuz so important?

The Strait of Hormuz connects the Persian Gulf to the Arabian Sea. Ships from big oil and gas producing countries like Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait, Iraq and UAE pass through this route. Therefore, any kind of disturbance here affects the entire world’s energy supply and oil prices.

Why did the world’s concern increase?

There is already tension between Iran and America. In such an environment, the damage to two tankers in a row has increased the fear that if the situation worsens, the movement of ships passing through Hormuz may be affected. This can have a big impact on the global oil and gas market. At present, officials are investigating the matter and security agencies are keeping an eye on the entire incident.
