Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has written an open letter to Russian President Vladimir Putin proposing a direct meeting and talks. Zelensky says that the way to end the Russia-Ukraine war can come through direct talks between the two leaders. Zelensky said that intelligence reports have shown that you are now considering plans to continue the war till 2027 and 2028. Now the choice is yours. Enough of war. Ukraine has proposed to end this war. This work must be done honestly, with dignity and with the guarantee that war will not start again.
In a letter of more than 1,800 words, Zelensky said that America’s focus is completely on Iran at this time. In such a situation, Ukraine and Russia should not wait for the war in Europe to become America’s priority again. He said that peace is possible only when both the countries talk directly. Zelensky proposed that a complete ceasefire be implemented during the talks. However, Putin has already rejected this demand.
Zelensky also took a dig at Putin
Zelensky wrote that due to being in power for 26 years, the effect of age is now visible on Putin. He also mentioned the recent Ukrainian drone and missile attacks inside Russia. Ukraine wants to end this war through direct negotiations between you and us. I propose to meet you. He said that this meeting could be held in a neutral country like Switzerland or Turkey.
The Kremlin has confirmed that it has received this letter and Putin will be informed about it. However, Russia said that if Zelensky wants to meet, he can come to Moscow. While talking to journalists in St. Petersburg, Putin said that he is ready to make a deal with Ukraine, but for this both sides will have to make some compromises. He also said that the EU could convince Zelensky to give up claims on some areas.
What is Russia’s demand?
Russia has long been demanding that Ukraine give up its claims to the Donetsk, Luhansk, Kherson and Zaporizhia regions and stop trying to join NATO. But Ukraine refuses to accept these conditions. He says that if he does this then Russia may attack again in the future.
Zelensky wrote in his letter that Ukraine is losing its people every day and every death is extremely painful for it. He also claimed that the Russian people are now fed up with the war, Ukrainian drone attacks, petrol shortage and rising prices.
Trump supported the meeting
At the same time, US President Donald Trump also supported the meeting of the two leaders. Trump said that it would be a great thing if Putin and Zelensky meet. They should end this war through talks. He also said that America has played an important role in bringing both the countries closer to peace.
