MG Ramachandran And Thalapathy Vijay: Tamil cinema’s biggest superstars C. Joseph Vijay i.e. Thalapathy Vijay remains the biggest center of both Indian politics and cinema these days. After assuming the responsibility as the new Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, Vijay is all set to create a stir at the box office once again. His much awaited film and last film as an actor ‘Jana Nayagan’ is finally going to be released on 23rd July.
Coming after a long legal battle and delay with the Censor Board, this film is going to create a new history in Indian politics. But Vijay is not the first sitting Chief Minister whose commercial film is being released after he became the CM. Even before Thalapathy Vijay, there was such a megastar who was seen roaring as a hero in the theater even after holding the biggest position of the Chief Minister of the state. We are talking about the late M.G., known as the God of Tamil cinema and Chanakya of politics. Ramachandran means MGR.
Became Chief Minister in 1977, film released in 1978
If we look at MGR’s political journey, he had led his party AIADMK to a landslide victory in the 1977 Tamil Nadu assembly elections. After this, on June 30, 1977, he took oath as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu. Just 6 months after becoming the Chief Minister, i.e. on 14 January 1978, on the special occasion of Pongal, the film ‘Madurai Meetta Sundarapandiyan’ starring MGR in the lead role was released in theatres. Apart from being the lead actor of this film, MGR himself was also its director.

Vijay is going to repeat 48 years old history
After 48 years of MGR, Thalapathy Vijay is also going to repeat history on the same pattern. Director H. Vinoth’s film ‘Jannetha’ was planned as a farewell film for Vijay before joining full-time politics, but its release was delayed due to being stuck in the Censor Board. The result was that now this film is coming in theaters when Vijay himself has taken charge of the state. Now it has to be seen whether Vijay’s film, which is coming after becoming CM, can break all the old box office records or not.
