ethanol production
Ethanol production capacity in the country has increased rapidly and currently there is a capacity to produce about 2,000 crore liters of ethanol annually. At the same time, to meet the target of 20 percent ethanol blending in petrol, approximately 1,100 crore liters of ethanol is required. In such a situation, a large amount of excess ethanol remains available, new uses for which are being explored. Ethanol can be used as cooking fuel. It is a cleaner alternative than traditional fuels like wood and coal. Its use reduces smoke and pollution, which can benefit both the environment and health.
Ethanol is used in kitchen in these countries
According to Vijendra Singh, President of All India Distillers Association (AIDA), ethanol is being used for cooking in many developing countries. In countries like Kenya, ethanol is available at pumps and is used in community kitchens, hospitals and hostels.
