After the meeting with G-7 countries, America is preparing for G-2 summit. US President Donald Trump announced this during a meeting with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Paris. Trump said that now there will be a G-2 meeting, after which we will hold a meeting with the G-20 countries. During this, Trump asked the journalists, do you know about G-2?
Trump Had asked this question because officially G-2 group does not exist. In the world of diplomacy, the meeting between America and China is called the meeting of G-2 countries. Famous American economists in 2005 C. Fred Bergstein Gave its concept.
Bergstein said that America and China are the two most important countries in the world in terms of economy. Both need to work as a group to progress together.
The last meeting was held in 2025
The G-2 meeting was last held in South Korea. However, at that time only US President Donald Trump had reacted to the meeting. China had not said anything on the G-2 meeting. Donald Trump went to Beijing in mid-May this year, but this meeting was not named G-2.
Chinese President Xi Jinping is going to visit Beijing in September 2026. It is believed that America can name this meeting G-2.
Interestingly, this group neither has any office nor is there any mention about the group in any official document.
Why is this a blow to India?
Like China, India is also a major and strong country in South Asia. China and India are also considered rival countries. Till now the relations between China and America have not been good, due to which India has been benefiting. To pacify China in South Asia, America and India together formed Quad. Only last month, Quad meeting was held in New Delhi.
In such a situation, if America holds a G-2 meeting with China, then it will affect India also. When Biden was President, he met Jinping only once during his entire tenure. Trump is going to meet Jinping for the second time this year.
Fellow of Taiwan Asia Exchange Foundation Sana Hashmi Believes that China does not give much importance to the concept of G-2. According to him, China is not a supporter of such a world order in which it has to share global leadership with America. This is the reason why it does not present any meeting with America as “G-2 meeting”.
