‘No letter has come from rebel MPs’, leader of Uddhav faction said after meeting Lok Sabha Speaker

June 24, 2026 by Uma Shankar

Shiv Sena UBT MPs met Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla and talked about the possible letter from the rebel group. In this matter, MP Arvind Sawant said that we had come last week and had requested the Speaker. In that request, we had said that if any MP wants to go somewhere personally, then you have to protect the Constitution. We had told him not to take any decision without hearing me. He told that he had given us time at 5 pm today (Wednesday) to discuss this issue and we met him.

Arvind Sawant said, ‘We told Speaker Saheb that if anyone has received a letter from the rebel group then please let us know, but he said that nothing like this has come yet and we have not received the paper. We said that no one can get recognition for protecting the provisions of the Constitution. There cannot be separate seating arrangements.

What did Anil Desai say?

Apart from Shiv Sena UBT MP Arvind Sawant, Anil Desai also met the Speaker and told that ‘Speaker Saheb has assured us that the decision will be taken as per the rules, there will be no discussion other than that. He said that if any application comes from the rebel group, we will investigate it from our office and whatever arrangement will be made, we will take a decision according to that arrangement.

MP Anil Desai said, ‘We informed him that in the 10th Schedule of the Constitution, it is clearly written that even if the legislature party has two-thirds majority, he cannot join any other party. He can neither join nor merge with any party. Whenever the original party does a merger, the same merger can be approved only with two-thirds majority of the legislature party.

6 MPs have joined Eknath Shinde’s Shiv Sena

In fact, 6 out of 9 Lok Sabha MPs of Shiv Sena (UBT) have recently joined the Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena, while Arvind Sawant, Anil Desai and Rajbhau Waje remain with the Uddhav Thackeray-led faction. The MPs who joined the Shinde camp include Nagesh Ashtikar, Sanjay Deshmukh, Sanjay Jadhav, Sanjay Dina Patil, Omprakash Raje Nimbalkar and Bhausaheb Wakchore.

Shinde faction got recognition in 2023

The Election Commission had recognized the Shinde-led faction as the real Shiv Sena in February 2023. Shinde had led the split in the undivided Shiv Sena in the year 2022, due to which the Maha Vikas Aghadi government in Maharashtra fell.
